Dog Rescue
Among everything else, The VJ Ranch is also home to a dog rescue. All of our dogs are rescued from euthanasia lists so it truly is a second chance at life. They are all spayed/neutered and have all their vaccines, including rabies. Here at the ranch they are housebroken, crate trained and have learned to live with other dogs, cats and of course, horses. The Arizona Humane Society family has tragically lost a long time family member. Sheila worked at the Humane Society for 10 yrs as a vet tech. She was a valuable asset to all the animals. She was a caring, compassionate person that helped anyone that needed anything. Her own son that had nobody else to turn to in his time of need was taken in by his loving mother. He took Sheila's life, along with her grandson, Logan, on Logan's 14th birthday. Our hearts and prayers remain with this family in their time of loss. There is a fund set up to help out the family and if anyone is interested in donating they can do so by cash, check, money order, or debit card to Chase Bank for the Lampert Family Support Trust act # 2748324601.
We all love you Sheila! We will ALWAYS love and NEVER forget. As our hearts ache from this loss we do know that you are watching over all the homeless pets that never had the chance! For that, we are thankful!

9/8 This past week we have been hit especially hard with unexpected illnesses, injuries and emergencies. Our vet expenses have racked up and we could use donations now more than ever. We get very few donations and greatly appreciate every little bit that we do get, however, we rely on our adoption fees to help with all expenses, which are absorbed just by spay/neuters and vaccines alone. This past week has burdened us financially. If anyone would like to make a donation, of any type, we would so appreciate it. No donation is too small. Food or item donations can be dropped off at the ranch or donations by check can be mailed to our address on the home page.
So you may put a face to your donation, the animals that needed extra care this week are as follows:
'Pearl' suffered a prolapsed uterus after giving birth to her precious babies and had to undergo emergency surgery. Her babies have required lots of special care.
'Lu Lu' suffered a self inflicted injury to her leg. Turns out it was just bruised and sore.
'Johnny' suffered a self inflicted injury to his rear leg while hunting for lizards. He tore a gash in it and has to have regular bandage changes.
'Lady' has been hit with the 'Dachshund curse' and is trying to recover from a buldging disc. She may or may not need to undergo surgery for this. She could sure use your prayers! She is the sweetest soul you could ever meet and we are praying for the best outcome for her. Please add her to your prayer list. (9/17: We are sorry to report that Lady gave up the fight and passed peacefully in her sleep. She is not suffering any longer).
These are just the big 'extras' over and above all of the normal medications and minor medical that we expect on a weekly basis.

Petey
Petey is a 2 yr. old neutered male Corgi mix. He looks like he is a Corgi/Basenji mix. He is a very nice boy and will be a great dog for someone. He is smart and learns quickly. Lu is a 3 yr. old neutered male Pekingese mix. This little guy was surrendered to the Yuma Humane Society when his owner became ill. He is housebroken and crate trained. We are lucky to still have "Little Lu" as he survived a rattlesnake bite last April! He was a little trooper and remained the happiest little dog right through it all! In memory of Baby
Rescued from the county shelter when her family dumped her there at the age of 13 yrs old, Baby lived her last days out here at the ranch. We are sad to report that Baby was humanely euthanised on Friday August 13th. May she be running like a puppy now. We will see you again someday pretty girl.

Italian Greyhound mix pups There are 7 of these little kiddoes! We have 2 girls and 5 boys. They are now spayed/neutered and ready to go home. They are happy, playful, healthy kids. In Memory Of
Terry
We are sorry to report that "Terry" was humanely put to sleep on Sunday November 18, 2007. His time here was clearly over and we will all miss him terrible!! Although "Terry" was never adopted, he did consider the ranch home. He was very happy here. Thanks to Deb at the Arizona Humane Society, "Terry" was gifted
an extra 2 1/2 years of life. He first showed up at AHS with razor wire wrapped around and embedded in his abdomen. The wonderful staff at the second chance hospital, surgically removed it and Deb pleaded with me to rescue him!! Thank you all who offered him love.

Update on
"Molly"
Molly had her leg amputated on Friday night, December 7th 2007. She is home from the hospital and resting now. She is having some difficulty learning
to hop on 3 legs but she is learning. Each day will get better. She will soon feel much better and be able to get around better than she has in a very long
time!! Thank you everyone who prayed for "Molly". And thanks to Dr. Egar at the Arizona Humane Society who did a fabulous job on her.
